Visual Aesthetics

I chose to evaluate this ornament which i found at my boyfriends house, the reason i have chosen this is because i think that it a very pleasant object too look at.
The object is a simple ornament of a woman bent on one knee and the other leg bent up towards the back of the woman, meeting her arms at the back. The stance that the woman is holding sort of gives me the idea that she is dancing, That this would be a move included in a dance routine.

The object is grey stone marble, with a rough texture to it.

What i like most about this object and what i think makes it more pleasing to the eye is the shape of it, how the arms being not two arms but one as they are joined together, with the leg meeting them and also joining together with the arms. This gives the object quite a curvilinear look as it hold a lot of curves.

  • The arms are curved round almost into a circle.
  • The ladies head is lent backwards.
  • The womans stomach is rounded as the back is arched forwards.
  • The leg is curved round towards the arms (giving the whole object a very interesting shape).
  • The womans curved back leads down towards her rounded bum, connecting to the leg that leads to the legs and arms.
These points i think show that the designer of this object was planing on giving the object a curvilinear look.
Finally the woman is sat on a stand, this stand is obviously there so that the object can stand up but to keep with the whole marble theme the stand is also in the same style.
